4 Steps to Achieving Success with mySet

The intention of this post is to outline the parameters of a band that has successfully made money using mySet. The best way to make more money is to connect with your crowd. If they hear a song that they love, they are more likely to stay at the venue and listen to you. The longer they stay, the more songs they request.

1. Set your song request price to $0

mySet is set up so that a person in the crowd doesn’t have to put in their credit card information if you set your song request price to $0. We did this to let them try out the app without having to pay for anything. This lets them interact with you without any time-consuming barriers. Past shows have shown us that people in the crowd request multiple songs and once there are more than 5 songs in the setlist, they begin adding money to move their song up in up in the queue. You can easily work the crowd by saying something like “Now we’ve got a song coming up next that just got bumped up to the top. If you want to hear your song next, you better boost it up as well.”

The reason for the song request price is for you to be able to change it to something higher when you have a queue of greater than 20 songs.

2. Promote the ‘interactive set’ just before and during your show

The artists that have made the most money on mySet explained that they were using this app before their show and people started downloading the app while the musicians were getting set up. People even requested songs they wanted to hear before the artist began playing (if you do this too, just make sure that you start your event before you start setting up so people can begin requesting). The artist said something along the lines of “Download mySet to see all the songs that I can play, pick one of your favorites – or 3 of your favorites—and I’ll see them pop up on my phone. You don’t even have to leave your seat or pay me cash. Tipping is optional but having fun with me while I play music with you all is required.”

Something creative and fun like this is a great conversation starter – among the tables themselves and with you and the crowd. After a request comes in, you can start a conversation about that particular song and even ask the crowd who requested it. This is an easy icebreaker to open up the crowd for more engagement.

3. Share your event

Once you have created your first event on mySet, you can easily share it on Social media or through text. This is a great way for your followers to see where you are playing before your show!

4. Link your social media account

To ensure that the people that connect with you at the event continue following you, link your social accounts to your mySet profile. Even if they are only temporarily visiting the city, they can still easily keep up with you on social media, and who knows maybe you will be playing in their hometown soon!
